FAQs about Litigation & Disputes
Landlord and Tenant disputes
Landlord and Tenant disputes can relate to many issues such as rent, repairs, and anti social behaviour. Often both parties to the dispute resolve it through mediation.
It is important that both parties see legal advice to find out about their rights and responsibilities.
The law protects both parties by imposing certain responsibilities on them.
The landlord responsibilities:
- repairs, heating and hot water systems
- the gas and electrical appliances safety
- the fire safety
- making sure that the property is fit for occupation
- the common areas
The tenant responsibilities:
- rent payments and taking good care of the property
- all bills agreed with landlord
It is advisable that if the dispute arises from one of the above mentioned responsibilities, the landlord should be informed in writing.
